Nigerians reacted emotionally to a video that went viral on social media showing a 19-year-old Nigerian teenager selling plastic rubbish and cartons to generate money for his work gear.
A content producer later assisted the small child, named as Samuel, a gesture that brought him to tears.
Samuel was seen lifting and dropping sacks of plastic rubbish at the collecting station in the footage.
He clarified that he made between ₦1,000 and ₦2,000 for each bag that included cartons and rubber products.
He claims that he used the money he saved to purchase the equipment he required for his tile business.
TikTok content producer @bayuztvs approached Samuel and asked him who introduced him to the waste industry and why he was interested in it.
The adolescent disclosed that his parents were unaware of his activities and that he needed money to purchase gear for his job.
Samuel clarified that although he had studied tiling years prior, a shortage of equipment prevented him from beginning professional business.
Listing the items he needed, he said: “Cutting machine, mallet, pitches, and knife.”
The content producer was moved by Samuel’s story and bought him new clothes, took him to a restaurant for dinner, and gave him a haircut.
In addition, he received ₦50,000 in cash, a new phone, and one of the necessary tiling tools.
Samuel was so happy that he sobbed, rolled around on the ground, and thanked the content provider.
Social media users were further moved when he wanted to see his mother in the heartfelt video.
The content creator visited Samuel’s house and spoke with his mother in a subsequent video.
Social media users were further moved when she was given ₦1 million in cash during the visit.
Additionally, Samuel and his mother went grocery shopping, where the family bought necessities valued at more than ₦650,000.
Fans and friends of the content producer reportedly contributed ₦7.05 million to help Samuel and his family after the videos.
The donations were intended to enhance the teen’s family’s standard of life and assist him in fully settling into his profession.
In a significant step, Samuel was also given a scholarship that will fund his college studies, ensuring both his academic and professional futures.
