According to a report by Reuters on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, US strikes in southern Iran escalated the conflict and raised concerns about civilian facilities near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state television IRIB said that the latest American military attack hit a Qeshm Island fish powder factory.
A fishing pier and port authority tower in Sirik were also hit, according to the broadcaster.
The US military did not immediately confirm that the fish powder facility, fishing pier, or port authority tower were its targets.
Other reports confirm that Iranian official media reported strikes on civilian and business sites. IRIB said a fish powder factory in Qeshm and several civilian targets in Hormozgan, including Sirik’s fishing dock and port authority tower, were hit, according to Middle East Eye.
The bombings occurred as the US launched additional operations against Iran on Tuesday.
US Central Command said American forces had begun striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets inside Iran in response to recent attempted attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US personnel in the region.
Southern Iran reported explosions at Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, Konarak, and Chabahar. Some Iranian media reported strikes around the Strait of Hormuz.
Hormozgan was not alone in the recent escalation.
A US rocket targeted Kerman’s Jiroft Airport, according to Iranian state television. A local official stated the rocket fell outside the runway and caused no injuries or airport infrastructure damage.
Jiroft, Qeshm, and Sirik assaults show the extent of the new US military campaign in southern and central Iran.
Iran has repeatedly accused Washington of attacking civilian facilities during the conflict, but the US claims its operations defend American personnel and commercial cargo.
The fresh attacks prompted Iran’s military leadership to act immediately.
While Iranian armed forces say missiles and drones are targeting US sites and interests across the region, the IRGC has issued a “regretful response” to the American attacks.
Additionally, the IRGC warned that the US will regret its current strikes.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump warned Tehran that retaliation might lead to a larger American military effort.
After a brief quiet, the Strait of Hormuz is again in the center of the situation.
