Following the confirmation of U.S. airstrikes on ISIS terrorist sites in Sokoto State, a Nigerian guy serving in the U.S. Army sparked online outrage by sending a message to Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a well-known Islamic cleric.
The development coincides with fresh declarations by former US President Donald Trump, who pledged to end threats against Christians and other people targeted by extremist groups, as well as increased discussions about US engagement in Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts.
Sheikh Gumi recently gained notoriety for publicly denouncing the U.S. strike, cautioning against foreign military intervention in Nigeria, and slamming the federal government for failing to turn to nations like Pakistan and Turkey for support.
His remarks generated a lot of conversation on social media.
The Nigerian-born American soldier, known online as @Horiyourme, posted a picture from Sheikh Gumi’s video message in response to the cleric’s position.
