The United States has condemned in strong terms the recent terrorist attack in Niamey, Niger, describing it as a direct strike on critical infrastructure and a grave threat to civilian lives.

In a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Niamey, the attack, carried out between the night of January 28 and 29, was said to have targeted the Diori Hamani International Airport and a nearby military installation.

According to the embassy, the incident posed serious risks to civilians and to personnel working to support stability and security in the country.

The United States noted that such violence undermines peace, and development.

“Acts of violence of this nature undermine peace, development, and the joint efforts of Nigeriens and their partners to build a safer and more prosperous future,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its solidarity with the government and people of Niger, Washington reiterated its firm opposition to terrorism and violent extremism in all forms.

The embassy added that the United States supports efforts to ensure those responsible are held accountable and remains committed to working with Niger and regional partners to advance security, resilience, and respect for human life.
