Seven years after her student visa to the United States was twice denied, Grace Fadugba, a 22-year-old Nigerian woman, celebrated graduating from the University of Ibadan (UI) with a first-class honours degree in law.
Grace shared her tale on X (previously Twitter), revealing that she had won scholarships to study in the United States after performing exceptionally well on her Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exams.
Her visa applications, however, were denied in spite of her academic success.
She revealed that she was struggling with depression at the time as a result of the disappointments. She chose not to give up and instead focused on studying law in Nigeria, a choice she claimed changed her life.
Grace observed that she used the setback to her advantage, focusing her energies on achieving academic success and developing personally throughout her time at university.

“About 7 years ago, I was depressed from my study visa being rejected twice after acing my SATs and TOEFL and getting scholarships to study in the USA. “UI became a detour for me and today, I can say I made excellent use of it even beyond the grades. “Still Day 1.”

She added: “I remember grudgingly going to register for P/UTME on the day it was to close because my sister insisted that I have a backup plan.
