In a road accident on the Oworonsoki-Apapa Expressway in Lagos, a female passenger died and six others were seriously injured.
Adebayo Taofiq, a spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday, March 8.
Taofiq mentioned the incident over the weekend.
He said, “Reports revealed that a Volkswagen commercial bus (LSD 654 XY) veered off course and violently rammed into a roadside culvert along the corridor.”
He added that the impact of the collision forcefully ejected a female passenger from the vehicle onto the expressway, with 6 others seriously injured with multiple fractures.
“In a tragic turn of events, an oncoming articulated trailer approaching the scene was unable to forestall the sudden occurrence and consequently ran over the passenger who had fallen on the roadway, resulting in her immediate de@th.”
He added that six other occupants of the bus, including the driver, sustained varying degrees of injuries, with some reportedly suffering multiple fractures.
Taofiq said that personnel of the Lagos State Ambulance Service evacuated the injured victims to a nearby hospital for treatment, while officials of the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit removed the remains of the deceased from the scene.
