A police inspector identified as Abdulkadir Garba has reportedly d!ed after being struck by lightning while on duty in Maiduguri.

The incident was confirmed by ASP Nahum Daso, spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, in a tribute released on Friday, May 8, 2026.

According to Daso, the officer, popularly known as “Buratai,” was struck on Wednesday alongside a senior colleague, ASP Wazani Adamu, who survived the incident.

He explained that the two officers had attempted to seek shelter before the rainfall began but were reportedly hit by lightning before reaching safety.

The incident has drawn condolences from colleagues and members of the public following the sudden d3ath of the officer while on active duty.
