“The money they gave you to vote for them in the last election, I hope it’s still there?” — Bishop Oyedepo

The founder of Living Faith Church, David Oyedepo, has warned Nigerians against making “wrong electoral choices,” asking individuals not to sacrifice their future for money incentives during elections.

The clergyman issued the warning during a church service when he discussed government, leadership selection, and national unity.

His views came amid ongoing disagreements over Nigeria’s political future, as well as concerns about monetary incentives influencing voting patterns.

The money they gave you in the last election, I’m sure it is still there. How can you sell your destiny? I don’t think any member of this church will play the fool this time,” he said.

Today you have Muslim-Muslim ticket being propagated, tomorrow something else. When wrong character is established at the top, it flows down to every level of leadership. People must think beyond immediate gains,” he added.

Oyedepo emphasised the importance of national unity in a society that he described as highly split along religious lines, asking individuals to act responsibly in future elections.

“If Nigeria makes another mistake now, God forbid. We must pray for this nation and ask for deliverance from going backward,” he said.

The bishop also referred to previous warnings he claimed to have delivered as far back as 2015, emphasising that electoral decisions had long-term implications for governance and national development.

His remarks have elicited reactions, with some supporting his stance on voter responsibility and others viewing them as part of an ongoing theological commentary on Nigeria’s political scene.
