“The fastest way to ruin a child’s life is to shield them from struggle” – Patience Ozokwor advises parents

Patience Ozokwor, a seasoned Nollywood actress, has cautioned parents—especially those from wealthy homes—not to overindulge their kids.

The actress clarified in a recent interview on FEMI BABS TV that parents who attempt to protect their kids from every kind of adversity in an effort to provide them with a better life may inadvertently keep them from growing resilient and appreciating what they already have.

“The fastest way to ruin a child’s life is to say you don’t want them to suffer the way you did. I’m not saying allow them to suffer. What I’m saying is allow them to struggle. Go through the process,” she said.

Children who are raised in an affluent environment may find it difficult to comprehend the work their parents put into obtaining their homes and other belongings, according to Patience Ozokwor.

She went on to say that letting kids face small obstacles would teach them the value of hard work and how to appreciate their benefits.

“When they don’t struggle, can you imagine you have, like, 20 houses? You have in Enugu, you have in Abuja, you have in Lagos. Your children will just be struggling, ‘Which one belongs to me?’ They don’t know how you struggled to get those things,” she added.

The seasoned actress also advised parents to allow their kids go through some of life’s challenges without purposefully causing them pain.

Online debates have been sparked by her remarks, and many people concur that kids need to be disciplined and responsible regardless of their family’s financial situation.
