Popular comedian and content creator Tomama, popularly known as Datwarrigirl, has shared her thoughts on why many parents constantly pressure their daughters to get married, blaming poor communication between parents and their children.
In a video posted on her Instagram page, the comedienne said many women keep the painful realities of their relationships to themselves, leaving their parents unaware of the emotional struggles they are going through.
According to Tomama, if parents truly understood the heartbreaks, disappointments, and challenges their daughters experience in relationships, they would be less likely to keep mounting pressure on them to get married.
“Ladies, the reason why your parents are stressing and disturbing you for marriage is because you don’t tell them what you go through in that relationship. Una no dey tell them wetin una eyes dey see. Try dey talk, because me, I dey tell my mama everything,” she said.
Sharing her personal experience, Tomama revealed that after suffering a painful breakup, she broke down in tears and called her mother to explain everything that had happened.
Instead of pressuring her to find another partner, she said her mother advised her to focus on healing before entering another relationship.
The comedian added that she makes it a habit to tell her mother about every serious relationship in her life, a practice she believes has helped her family better understand her situation and reduced the pressure to settle down.
“Any person that comes into my life, I tell her. Who go like make him pikin dey cry? Them go dey tell you, ‘No rush oo, abeg,’” she added.
Her comments have since sparked conversations online, with many social media users agreeing that open communication with parents can help them better understand the realities of modern relationships.
