“Spend only what you can afford to lose” — Yul Edochie advises men on relationships

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has advised men against spending beyond their financial means on women, stressing that financial support does not give anyone the right to harm or take a woman’s life if a relationship ends.

In a post shared on social media, the actor addressed men who become violent towards their partners following relationship breakdowns, emphasising that spending money on a woman should never be used to justify violence or murder.

Yul Edochie speaks on relationship spending

Edochie argued that men should understand that spending money on their partners is a personal choice and should not create a sense of entitlement over their lives or decisions.

According to him, no woman deserves to lose her life simply because she chooses to leave a relationship for another man, regardless of how much her partner may have spent on her.

He wrote:

“Men, no matter how much money you spend on a woman, it doesn’t give you the right to take her life if she leaves you for another man.

“It doesn’t make her deserving of death.

“She never forced you to spend your money on her.

“You did it out of your own free will.

“No woman forces a man to spend his money on her.

“To avoid such situations, men should be sensible.

“Spend your money on yourself.

“Invest in yourself.

“If you want to spend your money on a woman, spend only what you can afford to lose in case things go wrong.”

Actor stresses the importance of financial responsibility

The actor’s message encourages men to maintain financial discipline in relationships and avoid treating gifts or financial assistance as investments that entitle them to control their partners.

His comments have also drawn attention to the issue of relationship-related violence, reinforcing the point that rejection, heartbreak or financial disagreements can never justify harming another person.

The post has sparked conversations online about financial expectations in relationships, emotional maturity and the importance of respecting a partner’s right to leave a relationship.
