Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has alleged that some musicians resort to spiritual practices, commonly referred to as voodoo or “jazz”, in their quest to produce hit songs.
The rapper made the claim during an appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast, where he discussed the challenges artistes face in achieving commercial success in the Nigerian music industry.
According to Odumodublvck, producing a hit song is not as easy as many people assume, noting that some musicians spend their entire careers without recording a commercially successful track.
He suggested that the pressure to achieve hit songs could push some artistes to explore unconventional means in a bid to gain popularity and recognition.
Speaking during the interview, he said:
“Getting a hit song is not easy. Sometimes people even do jazz to get one. That is why you see some artists crashing out when they struggle to get a hit.
“Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido have been dropping hit songs consistently for years.
“You have to respect that. Some artistes never get a hit song throughout their careers.”
Odumodublvck also praised fellow Nigerian music stars Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido for their ability to consistently release hit songs over the years.
His remarks have drawn attention to the intense competition in the music industry and the pressure artistes face to maintain commercial relevance.
However, his comments about some musicians allegedly using spiritual practices to secure hit songs remain his personal claims.
