A Nigerian woman has reportedly lost her three-year marriage after allegedly following her mother’s advice to deny her husband food and intimacy over a disagreement about monthly allowances.

The story was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a man who narrated how the 26-year-old woman’s disagreement with her husband over money reportedly escalated into a marital crisis.

According to the narrator, the woman was a housewife whose husband gave her ₦150,000 monthly for personal upkeep. He also reportedly gave her parents ₦100,000 each every month.

However, about three months ago, the husband allegedly informed his wife that his business was struggling and that he could no longer afford the existing financial arrangement.

He proposed reducing her monthly allowance to ₦100,000 and that of each parent to ₦40,000, explaining that he was shouldering most of the household’s financial responsibilities.

The woman reportedly became unhappy with the proposed reduction and sought her mother’s advice.

According to the narrator, her mother advised her to stop preparing food for her husband and withhold intimacy until he reconsidered the decision.

Her father, however, reportedly advised the couple to manage whatever the husband could afford, given his financial difficulties.

Despite her father’s advice, the woman allegedly followed her mother’s suggestion.

The narrator claimed that the husband eventually became frustrated with the situation and sent his wife out of the house about three weeks ago.

The woman reportedly returned to her parents’ home but began having disagreements with her mother after about two weeks.

Her mother allegedly complained that she was taking up their limited living space and consuming their food, eventually telling her to return to her husband.

The woman reportedly reminded her mother that she had only followed the advice she was given.

In response, her mother allegedly asked:

“So if I ask you to k!ll your husband, will you k!ll him?”

The narrator added that the woman’s father remained silent throughout the argument without intervening.
