A snake allegedly touched a woman’s leg while she was waiting at a residential estate gate late at night, prompting her to describe a terrifying but peculiar experience.

Because of how composedly she handled the issue, the incident—which happened after she had gone out to deliver a cake and stopped to buy pap (eko) and suya from a roadside vendor—has now gone viral online.

She described how she was wearing slippers when she felt something chilly on her leg and looked down to see a snake.

The occasion coincides with frequent reports of snake sightings in Nigerian cities and semi-urban regions, especially during the rainy season when reptiles are more prone to emerge from hiding spots in pursuit of warmth and food.

Concerns regarding environmental sanitation and pest management were raised in 2023 after similar instances were observed in some Lagos areas.

“I had just finished delivering a cake and stopped at the gate to buy pap and suya. While waiting, I suddenly felt something cold on my leg. When I looked down, it was a snake. The craziest part is that it paused on my leg for a few seconds,” she said.

“I didn’t scream or move. I just stayed still, hoping it would pass. After a while, it slowly moved away. Even I don’t know where that courage came from, because I was calm in a situation that should have terrified me,” she added.

She also quipped that, despite social media users’ warnings against it, the experience has made her wonder if she should get a snake as a pet.
