Nigerian musician Tekno has expressed his opinions about contemporary relationships, asserting that since the COVID-19 pandemic, love has changed.
The musician stated in a recent interview with Cool FM that the 2020 lockdown made many couples spend a lot of time together, which made them understand they weren’t as compatible as they had previously thought.
Tekno claims that the encounter altered people’s understanding of love and made many less inclined to commit to partnerships and marriage.
“I think since after 2020, love is not the same. During COVID, people got to spend time with their loved ones and realised maybe they didn’t really love the person as much as they thought,” he said.
According to the artist, a lot of relationships failed since couples no longer had the chance to miss one another, which made their presence seem less meaningful.
He also bemoaned the growing number of unsuccessful marriages, pointing out that relationship scandals have affected even well-known public leaders and celebrities.
Tekno went on to remark that the entertainment industry has evolved and that love stories are no longer as prevalent in music and film as they once were.
“That’s why I’m asking the question, where did love go? There was a time when love was real. Even our movies revolved around love. Now it’s mostly about clout and influencing. It doesn’t feel organic anymore,” he added.
His remarks have generated discussion on the internet; many individuals concur that relationships have changed since the epidemic, while others contend that although love still exists, people’s expectations have altered.
