Nigerian singer-songwriter Simisola Kosoko, better known by her stage name Simi, has disclosed that pregnancy and personal health concerns caused a delay in the release of her song “Where You Dey,” which features Chike.
The singer’s physical condition at the time prevented the song, which was first teased last year, from being released on the scheduled date.
Health struggles impacted music production
Simi said she struggled with illness, exhaustion, and nausea during the recording process, which impacted both completion and promotion, in a statement posted on her X (formerly Twitter) page on Friday.
“I really, really, really wanted to drop this song last year… I was sick and weak and nauseous and tired and my body just wouldn’t do what I wanted it to,” she explained, recalling the difficulty even in filming the snippet video.
Collaboration and self-production challenges
Simi commended Chike for his professionalism, pointing out that even though he was not aware of her condition, he quickly joined her in the studio after returning from a trip..
