Several injured as car ploughs into pedestrians in UK street; driver arrested for attempted murd£r

After a car crashed into several pedestrians in Derby’s city centre, injuring several people, police in Derbyshire, UK, detained a man on suspicion of attempted murder.

Following the “horrific” event, seven people suffered severe injuries.

The collision, according to the police, involved a black Suzuki Swift and occurred in the city’s Friar Gate neighborhood at approximately 9:30 p.m. on March 28.

According to one eyewitness, there was “absolute carnage” and many people were lying on the pavement and in the road after it happened.

Shortly after the incident, a car that was thought to be involved was stopped.

An Indian man in his 30s was detained and placed under police custody.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murd£r, causing serious injury, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving. 

New pictures from the collision scene in Derby show the road littered with shoes and blankets this morning, March 29. 

Ambulance crews treated seven people at the scene before they were rushed to the Royal Derby Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, the police told Metro. 

The police said: “The seven suffered a range of serious but not life-threatening injuries and we can confirm that contrary to online speculation, no one died in the incident.” 

With the investigation ongoing, detectives are “keeping an open mind as to the motives.” 

Derbyshire Constabulary said: “Although we know this will be alarming, we would like to reassure people that we do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public.” 

Nadine Peatfield, the leader of Derby City Council, said in a statement: “I am horrified by the incident in our city centre on Saturday evening, where several pedestrians were injured after being struck by a vehicle.  

“My thoughts, and those of the entire city, are with those injured, their families, and everyone who witnessed this distressing event. 

“We are working closely with Derbyshire Police as they investigate the circumstances of this incident.
