According to a report by DAILY POST on Tuesday 4 August 2026; Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has denied reports claiming he angrily walked out of content creator Peller’s wedding over jokes about the controversial “Wizkid is bigger than Fela” debate.

The rumours spread after a video circulated online showing Seun leaving the event while saying, “We are in the wrong place.” The clip triggered speculation on social media, with some users alleging he was offended by comments made by one of the event’s MCs; The MC later accused the musician of having anger issues.

Responding to the claims, Seun explained that his departure had nothing to do with the jokes or any disagreement at the wedding.

Speaking during a conversation with Fuji star Malaika at the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos, Seun said he remained at the ceremony until about 8:30 p.m. before leaving for another engagement at the Shrine.

“I left Peller’s wedding around 8:30 p.m. because I had an event at the Shrine; Bloggers claimed I left angrily; Was I supposed to be dancing when I was rushing to another event?” he said.

The clarification follows months after Wizkid’s controversial declaration during an online exchange with Seun in January 2026, where the Grammy-winning singer claimed he was “bigger than Fela;”

The statement sparked heated reactions across Nigeria, with fans, celebrities and public figures debating the legacy of the late Afrobeat icon, Fela Kuti.
