Ruth Kadiri raises alarm over fake products in Nigeria, calls on NAFDAC to take swift action

Ruth Kadiri, a Nollywood actress, has expressed concerns about the spread of dangerous and counterfeit goods in Nigeria and urged the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to take the matter more seriously.

The actress voiced her worries in a video message to Nigerians on her Instagram page, cautioning that contaminated and poorly made goods could seriously endanger people’s health.

She pointed out that people frequently buy goods thinking they are safe only to find out they might be dangerous. She also voiced concern about the effects of counterfeit drugs on ill individuals who depend on pharmacies for medical care.

“Every day, we buy different products believing they are safe, but sadly, some are poorly produced, contaminated, harmful and mostly fake. This is a threat to human life,” she said.

While discussing her own experience of buying garlic that allegedly changed color after she blended it, Kadiri also voiced concerns about children allegedly developing kidney failure as a result of counterfeit goods.

She emphasized that the problem necessitates group action and urged Nigerians to speak up whenever they see counterfeit goods being made or sold in their neighborhoods.

“It’s not just a buying problem, it is a we problem. Most of these products are produced in our country by our people, destroying the lives and health of our people, regardless of what they have to lose as long as they make money,” she added.

The actress warned that anyone could become a victim and urged Nigerians not to overlook the problem. Additionally, she urged NAFDAC to act to safeguard Nigerians’ health and lives.
