“Reciting a Qur’an verse during thief chase will finish their fuel” – Cleric sparks reactions with claims

A Muslim cleric went viral for claiming that a Qur’anic verse can stop a thief during a car chase.

In a viral video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the cleric stated that if someone is being pursued by a thief in a vehicle, they can invoke divine intervention by reciting a specific verse from the Qur’an.

He claimed that reciting the verse would cause Allah to “transfer the fuel” from the thief’s car to the victim’s, leaving the attacker stranded.

In his words, he said:

“If a thief is chasing you in a car, there is a verse in the Qur’an that, if you recite it, Allah will transfer the fuel from the thief’s car to yours until their fuel finishes, and they won’t be able to chase you anymore.”

The statement has sparked heated debate online, with many questioning the interpretation and others defending the cleric, claiming that spiritual protection is a part of faith.

Some social media users responded with mixed feelings. One commentator stated, “Faith is powerful, but let us not mislead people.” Another added, “Abeg, keep your doors locked and buy fuel.”

While some believers claimed that nothing is impossible with God, critics cautioned against spreading messages that could instill a false sense of security, particularly in matters of safety and crime prevention.
