President Tinubu appoints Bianca Ojukwu as Foreign Affairs Minister

Bola Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down ahead of the 2027 elections.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs before her elevation to the top diplomatic position.

In the same development, President Tinubu nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending Senate confirmation. Until his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.

According to a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Enikanolaiye is a seasoned diplomat with more than three decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service, having previously served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.

The Presidency said the appointments are part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy structure, improve strategic international engagement, and deepen global partnerships. President Tinubu also urged the appointees to promote Nigeria’s national interest, strengthen economic diplomacy, support regional stability, and protect the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
