A Nigerian man, Nkemka John Ugoagwu, has sparked reactions online after sharing his opinion on the perceived advantages of polygamy.

In a social media comment, Ugoagwu claimed that polygamy reduces what he described as a wife’s arrogance toward her husband.

He further argued that polygamous marriages may reduce stress on women because co-wives can support one another with responsibilities in the home.

His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some users agreeing with his perspective while others strongly disagreed and criticised the remarks.

“Competition promotes competence. A wife with a co-wife put more efforts in everything she does knowing that someone is available to do it anyway,” he added.
