Police PRO reacts after Papaya Ex alleges assault by Lagos officer

The Nigeria Police Force spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, has responded to allegations by influencer Papaya Ex that she was a$$aulted by a police officer in Lagos.

Previously, it was reported that the socialite took to Instagram to show off the bruise left on her face by the police officer.

Police PRO reacts to claim

Hundeyin provided the police version of events preceding the incident in an online statement.

According to him, at around 2 a.m., night patrol officers stopped a vehicle carrying three men and two women for a routine check. He claimed that Papaya Ex refused a search of the vehicle, telling officers, “You cannot search my car.” Are you unfamiliar with papaya? Even your bosses recognize me.”

He stated that she opted to proceed to the police station instead. An officer then entered her vehicle after an initial refusal, with the patrol van following behind. However, he claimed that she instructed her driver to speed off, causing the patrol team to radio another unit ahead to intercept the vehicle.

Hundeyin stated that the Lagos State Police Command would continue handling the matter.

His words …

“The part before she went live

Just before 2am, police on night patrol stopped a car conveying three men and two women and asked to check the car. She bluntly refused saying, ‘You cannot search my car. Don’t you know Papaya? Even your bosses know me.’

She chose to rather go to the station after which an officer sat in her vehicle, not before an initial refusal. Her vehicle was in front while the patrol vehicle was following behind. She instructed her driver to speed off, leaving the patrol vehicle far behind. At that rate, the patrol van was going to lose them. The police had to radio the patrol team far ahead to intercept them. Then the live began…
