Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, a Nigerian Catholic priest, has sparked political controversy by voicing strong opinions about how Peter Obi may affect Nigeria’s political elite should he win the presidency.

In a thorough Facebook post, the cleric expressed his opinions and counselled followers to prioritise ideals before self-interest. Since then, his remarks have elicited conflicting responses on the internet.

Nigerians were exhorted by Fr. Kelvin Ugwu to back Peter Obi for his beliefs rather than for his own gain. He cautioned against anticipating monetary benefits.

“If you want to support Peter Obi, support him because of what he stands for and what you believe he can do for Nigeria and not because of what you hope to gain from him personally.”

He emphasised that Obi is not known for granting favours without a valid reason or sharing money carelessly.

The priest clarified that Obi is unlikely to donate money if there is no justification or link to the task completed. Such expectations, he claimed, frequently result in disappointment.

He went on to say that Obi only provides funding for particular uses, such as projects, services, or designated responsibilities.

He claims that outside of established procedures, even close relatives might not be given preferential treatment.

Fr. Ugwu also explained how Obi supposedly manages personal obligations and logistics. He stated that unless they are formally engaged, people going with him might have to pay for their own expenditures.
