Peter Obi not godfather to Soludo’s children- First Lady’s aide

Daniel Ezeigwe, the media aide to Anambra State First Lady Dr. Nonye Soludo, has disputed former Governor Peter Obi’s claim that he and his wife are “godparents” to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s children.

Speaking at the Nigerian Guild of Editors Conference in Enugu State on Friday, September 25, Obi stated that he and his wife are “godparents” to Soludo’s children and that, despite their political differences, he holds no grudges against Soludo.

However, in a statement issued today, Daniel Ezeigwe, the media aide to Anambra State First Lady Dr. Nonye Soludo, stated that Obi’s claim is false.

Read the statement below;

“The attention of the First Lady of Anambra State, Dr Nonye Soludo, has been drawn to a viral video in which the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, claimed that ‘he and his wife are godparents to Soludo’s children’.

We have received numerous calls and inquiries asking for clarification on the claim since the video went viral.

We clearly state that the claim as presented is false. To clarify, Mr Peter Obi is not the godfather of any of Professor Chukwuma and Dr Nonye Soludo’s children.

The following details pertain to the two families’ godparent relationship: Peter Obi’s daughter’s “godmother” is Dr. Nonye Soludo, the First Lady of Anambra State.

One of Professor Chukwuma Soludo’s daughters has a baptismal godmother, Mrs. Margaret Obi, the wife of Mr. Peter Obi.

Professor Soludo and Mr. Obi have not been godparents to each other’s children. It’s possible that Mr. Peter Obi just made a mistake while speaking. However, it is crucial to correct the record given the video’s extensive distribution and the inquiries it has sparked. There is no need to misrepresent the friendly relationship between the two families in any way.
