Cleric Lawrence expresses unhappiness with Nigeria’s current position and questions the country’s continued status as the “Giant of Africa.”
During a recent speech, the pastor stated that the title no longer accurately reflects the lives of many Nigerians.
He lauded former President Olusegun Obasanjo, hailing him as one of the country’s best presidents and noting debt alleviation as a noteworthy achievement.
Pastor Lawrence also expressed alarm about Nigeria’s mounting debt burden and what he sees as increased foreign control over key sectors of the economy.
He mourned what he saw as a decline in national dignity and power during prior decades.
The priest emphasised the importance of accountability in leadership, saying that political support should not be based on family ties, ethnicity, religion, or personal relationships.
According to him, citizens should assess leaders based on their performance and the impact of their policies on the lives of regular Nigerians.
Read his words below…
“I don’t want to hear anybody say Giant of Africa. It’s mockery. One of the best presidents that ever presided this country remains Obasanjo. I don’t care what you say about him. Go and read the record of the things that he did. It was in his term that all the debts vanished.
But in certain people’s terms, we don’t even know where the debt is going now. It has definitely moved beyond earth to space.
I was reading in the news recently that some people went to one query to get sand and the people selling the sand were Chinese people. In your own country. Sh@me. Giant of Africa.
If you know the dignity of Nigeria decades ago, but today it’s a different ball game.
Let me tell you, if my brother from the same father and mother, was the president of this nation and things are like this, if I vote for him, that punishment will not end. That’s the truth. I would rather disown my own family name than to vote for him….”
