Victor Osimhen scored the game-winning goal as Galatasaray defeated Besiktas 1-0 in the Istanbul derby at Tüpraş Stadium.
The Nigerian striker scored in the 39th minute, meeting a beautiful pass from Leroy Sane with a thumping header into the bottom corner.
The goal was enough to separate the teams in a tense match and keep Galatasaray atop the Süper Lig standings.
Sané’s impact on the game went beyond the assist, but his night ended early.
The German winger received a straight red card in the 62nd minute following a VAR review for a violent foul on Ridvan Yilmaz.
Galatasaray, down to 10 men for the final half-hour, were obliged to take a more defensive stance as Besiktas applied more pressure.
Besiktas dominated possession by over 60 percent and produced multiple chances, finishing with 24 shots on goal.
However, Galatasaray custodian Ugurcan Cakir stood out, making seven key saves to deny the hosts and hold the slender lead.
The victory boosts Galatasaray to 61 points at the top of the Turkish Süper Lig, providing a significant boost ahead of their UEFA Champions League match against Liverpool.
