“No privacy” – Woman calls out teacher for recording students during class for social media content

A Nigerian woman has generated outrage online after criticising a teacher who allegedly videotaped herself and her kids in class for social media content.

According to her, the instructor set up a tripod in the classroom during class time and videotaped herself and the pupils, raising issues about privacy and professionalism.

“I saw a teacher set up a tripod in the classroom while she was teaching and recording herself to create content. A classroom where she’s supposed to have 45 minutes to teach. She set up the camera and was recording herself, with the faces of the students showing on social media, and the school allowed that,” she said.

She also questioned the aim of such information, pointing out that it looked to be for personal gain rather than the benefit of the institution or its students.

The woman emphasised that using official class time for content creation could interrupt effective teaching and learning, and that posting students’ faces online without their permission is improper.

“What content are you creating? You’re not creating it for the school or the parents. The parents didn’t bring their children’s faces to social media. Why are you doing it? Why use your working hours to record personal content? That’s a big distraction—for you and for the students,” she added.

Her remarks have sparked questions about boundaries, professionalism, and student privacy in the age of social media, particularly in the educational system.
