Nigerian soldier compares pay to U.S. troops, says they’re still waiting for Christmas bonus

A Nigerian soldier expressed worries about the treatment of local military forces after comparing their pay to that of US soldiers.

In a post that quickly gained traction online, the soldier said, “President Donald Trump, I heard that U.S. soldiers are being given $1,776 for Christmas and New Year. Nigerian soldiers are yet to receive their own share of the Dollar.”

His comments underscore the growing discontent among soldiers about meagre or nonexistent incentives and allowances during holiday seasons.

Many people questioned government priorities and resource allocation after the soldier’s article sparked conversations regarding the wellbeing of Nigerian military members.

Many pointed out that although Nigerian troops put their lives in danger every day, their pay frequently falls short of international norms, which stands in stark contrast to the well-funded initiatives in nations like the United States.
