A Nigerian man who voted for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election has expressed regret over his decision, claiming that worsening economic conditions have negatively affected his finances.
The man, whose identity has not been revealed, disclosed that he had not eaten since morning when he spoke about his current struggles. He also described how his financial situation had changed from owning two cars and living comfortably to struggling to pay his house rent.
His remarks were made in a video circulating on social media, where he spoke about the country’s economic situation and the difficulties he has faced.
According to him, he supported Tinubu during the 2023 election because he believed the president would improve Nigeria’s economy. However, he claimed that his financial condition had deteriorated since the election, leaving him struggling to afford basic necessities and concerned about losing his accommodation.
“I voted for President Tinubu in 2023, thinking he would do well, but he disappointed us,” he said.
The man further explained that rising rental costs had compounded his financial difficulties, warning that he could be forced to leave his apartment if he failed to meet his rent obligations.
He also called on Tinubu to step aside and allow another person to lead the country, arguing that the president should give someone else an opportunity to take over the nation’s leadership.
His comments have added to ongoing public discussions about the rising cost of living, increasing housing expenses and the effects of economic policies on ordinary Nigerians.
Nigerians react to man’s complaints
The video attracted mixed reactions from social media users, with some sympathising with the man’s situation while others questioned whether the experience would influence the political choices of voters who supported Tinubu.
A user identified as Godseth expressed anger over the situation, writing:
“I pray make the economy kpai everybody wey been vote for Tinubu before.”
Another commenter, SeniorMan, suggested that some supporters of the ruling party might maintain their political allegiance despite experiencing financial difficulties.
“No send this one o.. with 2k he go still Vote APC.. Una go too suffer,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Heyzeekel attributed some Nigerians’ political decisions to tribalism and questioned whether voters would reconsider their choices ahead of the 2027 general election.
“See wetin tribalism go cause. Yet someone no go still get sense in 2027 Elections,” he said.
The reactions reflect differing opinions among social media users about economic hardship, political loyalty and the factors that influence voting decisions in Nigeria.
