American rapper Nicki Minaj has urged celebrities, social media influencers and other prominent personalities to raise their voices against violence targeting Christians in Nigeria.
The rapper explained that she has a personal connection to Nigeria through her pastor, whom she identified as Nigerian. She also mentioned her large Nigerian fan base, popularly known as Barbz, as another reason the country holds significance for her.
Speaking about the situation, Minaj questioned why the reported b√utality against Christians in Nigeria had not attracted greater public attention.
“My pastor is from Nigeria, so I have a link to Nigeria because of him and I have a lot of Nigerian Barbz. Why isn’t anyone making a big deal out of the brutality in which Christians are being treated in Nigeria?” she said.
Minaj suggested that some issues receive limited attention because they are not considered popular or fashionable topics to discuss publicly.
“Sometimes when things aren’t cool to talk about, people just don’t talk about it,” she added.
She expressed hope that more celebrities, influencers and other public figures would use their platforms to draw attention to the situation.
Her remarks have brought renewed attention to discussions about vi0lence against Christians in Nigeria and the role prominent personalities can play in raising awareness of humanitarian and security concerns.
