The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has taken custody of a 17-year-old Nigerian girl in connection with a suspected human trafficking case.

The victim, an indigene of Obingwa Local Government Area in Abia State, arrived in Nigeria on Sunday, April 26, at about 5:00 p.m. She was accompanied by the Charge d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Monrovia, R.O Muhammed.

According to a statement by the agency, the diplomat formally handed the teenager over to NAPTIP officials at the airport, where she was received for care, protection, and further intervention.

NAPTIP said it has begun the necessary procedures to support the victim, while investigations are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible for the trafficking network.
