Chukwueze, a Super Eagles player, has expressed dissatisfaction with his post-match media obligations following his team’s third-place finish.
According to the athlete, the interviews lasted until after the game was over and the players were leaving the pitch.
“We’ll just talk and talk, everybody will be repeating the same thing. We have finished and someone is already inside the car, and they are still doing interviews again. Na third place we carry o, make we dey go home abeg. Next time we go enter bus they go house or we order Uber instead,” he said.
Chukwueze’s reaction follows criticism of his involvement in the tournament and the team’s overall performance.
Despite his evident dissatisfaction, he remains one of the Super Eagles’ important players, making significant contributions throughout the competition.
His remarks reflect a broader conflict between players and media personnel, who frequently request extended interviews even after games have ended.
The 24-year-old forward’s comments have resonated with fans online, many of whom believe the media’s attention is sometimes excessive.
Some supporters defended his right to rant after a gruelling competition, pointing out that athletes need to recover and have privacy after the game.
Others claimed that the statements highlight a more serious issue of how players are treated by Nigerian sports media.
Chukwueze also hinted at future actions, saying that the squad would take buses straight to their rooms or book Ubers to avoid lengthy interviews.
