My Father Will Still Be Alive If His Wives Hadn’t Gone Out With Other Men and Infected Him With AIDS,— Seun Kuti Reveals

Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has disclosed that if his father, the renowned Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, had placed more stringent limitations on his wives’ relationships, he may still be alive.

In response to criticism from a woman who said that Fela did not deserve the adulation he got because he supposedly infected his partners with HIV and eventually died of AIDS, Seun made the remarks during an Instagram livestream.

Seun responded to the accusation by saying that Fela was not the only one who spread the illness. He argued that one of Fela’s wives may have contracted HIV elsewhere and passed it on to him.

“Fela made many mistakes. One day, I saw a video of a lady online saying why are people praising Fela’s legacy despite him giving women HIV and dying of AIDS,” Seun said. He added: If Fela was a traditional man, he would still be alive.

I will tell you something about him that you might not have known, Fela’s women all had other men.” Seun explained that his father did not restrict his wives’ freedom, believing that just as he was free to sleep with all his women, they should also be free to meet other men. “Fela did not keep his women to himself.
