Apostle Kassy Chukwu, an aide to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, has apologised to Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over remarks he previously made against the singer.
Chukwu had criticised Davido after the singer reacted to comments made by Governor Okpebholo about Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke during the state’s governorship election.
Chukwu Explains His Reaction
The governor’s aide explained that his response was made in his personal capacity after he took offence at Davido’s comments concerning the governor’s children.
He also apologised to Governor Okpebholo for any embarrassment his remarks may have caused and extended an apology to the people of Edo State.
Chukwu stressed that his comments represented his personal views and should not be interpreted as the position of Edo residents or the state government.
He said:
“I want to apologise to every good-meaning Edoite. And to my brother Davido, I love you. Please disregard my earlier comment.”
He added:
“Edo love you and of course you are welcome home anytime, any day in Edo State.”
Davido had previously criticised Governor Okpebholo over his remarks about Ademola Adeleke and said the governor’s children should be ashamed of their father.
Chukwu Says He Did Not Speak for the Governor
In a viral video, Chukwu further clarified that his response to Davido was not made on behalf of the Edo State Government.
He also stated that he did not make the comments on the instruction or with the approval of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
