Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has slammed bloggers for interviewing relatives of late gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, amid the ongoing dispute over his burial arrangements.
The actress accused some bloggers of fuelling the tension between the deceased’s widow and his family instead of giving them space to grieve privately.
In a post on her Instagram page, Aigbe decried the apparent lack of compassion surrounding the controversy, pointing out that the singer’s death left behind a grieving wife and two young children.
She insisted that the bereaved family deserved privacy, support and time to mourn, rather than having their disagreement turned into content for online engagement.
“Have we lost our sense of humanity? What happened to compassion?
Must everything become content? Must every family disagreement become public entertainment?
Whatever disagreements exist, can we allow this family some dignity and privacy to navigate their grief?
Not every situation needs a microphone. Not every conflict needs an audience. And not every tragedy should become an opportunity for engagement. Sometimes, the most humane thing you can do is put the camera down,” she said.
Aigbe called on bloggers and others covering the dispute to think about the emotional toll their actions could take on the widow, the children and other members of the family during this difficult period.
