A woman created a social media controversy by posting her thoughts on relationships, income, and dating goals.
According to her, women frequently emphasise financial security when choosing mates, suggesting parallels between men looking for work and women looking for wealthy spouses.
Her remarks have sparked discussions on dating dynamics, materialism, and gender roles in modern relationships.
“That girl that has accepted you, you feel she loves you. She accepted you because you are the richest among her options. The way a man looks for a job, that’s the same way a woman hunts for a rich boyfriend. They’ll use you, wait for the right person, someone that is richer than you,” she said.
The statement elicited varied reactions online, with some users agreeing with her viewpoint and others arguing that it unfairly portrayed women.
She also stated that recognising intentions in relationships is critical for controlling expectations and preventing sorrow.
Her comments illustrate longstanding debates in Nigeria about how financial security, personal aspirations, and social influences influence relationship decisions.
“This isn’t just about love—it’s about survival, opportunity, and social strategy. Men may seek affection, but women often seek security,” she added.
Similar discussions have taken place on social media since 2018, notably following viral debates over celebrity dating choices and the role of wealth in romantic decisions.
