A 29-year-old man has been arrested in South Africa for allegedly a$$aulting an 89-year-old woman in a disturbing incident.

Police say the att@ck occurred in the early hours of Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Nyavani village, near Malamulele in Limpopo.

According to spokesperson, Hlulani Mashaba, the suspect allegedly entered the elderly woman’s room while she was asleep and att@cked her after she told him she had no money.

Reports indicate the suspect later fell asleep at the scene, giving the victim an opportunity to call for help.

He was subsequently arrested but is currently under police guard in hospital after being a$daulted by members of the community.

The Provincial Commissioner, Thembi Hadebe, confirmed the arrest and cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court as investigations continue.
