A 19-year-old Nigerian woman has generated internet debate after giving her candid opinions on dating, financial responsibilities, and what partners should provide to a partnership.
In a viral video posted on X (previously Twitter), @mazi_chinonso declared that any man who wishes to date her must be financially and emotionally prepared to care for her.
She claimed that providing money, clothing, and general care is part of a boyfriend’s job.
In her words, read what she said below:
“When you’re dating me, it’s your right to take care of me, to give me money, to cloth me, to do anything. It’s your right. You don’t expect me to do it because you’re dating me. You’re my boyfriend.
I’m dating a guy now. What are you bringing to the table? Na just love we wan dey chop? No now. You will be giving me money and taking care of me.”
She went on to say that if a man is unable to contribute, it is best for both sides to move away, emphasising that love alone is insufficient to continue a relationship.
The teen also described what she believes she adds to a relationship. According to her, she provides emotional support, prayers for her partner’s achievement, and intimacy.
Her words have sparked varied reactions online, with some agreeing with her expectations and others criticising her thinking, claiming she is too young to make such demands.
A commentator wrote, “At 19, this mindset is scary. Life will teach you.” Another said, “She’s just saying what many people think but won’t say out loud.”
