Terem Moffi of the Super Eagles and Jérémie Boga of OGC Nice have launched formal legal action to terminate their contracts with the Ligue 1 club following a violent incident with supporters that has sidelined both players for more than a month.

According to French source L’Équipe, the couple filed a complaint with the Professional Football League’s (LFP) legal committee, claiming that Nice failed to ensure their safety after the team bus was stormed by supporters late in November.

The incident occurred on November 30 following Nice’s 3-1 loss to Lorient, which extended the club’s losing streak to six consecutive games in all competitions.

When the squad returned, a number of supporters allegedly confronted players near the team bus. Moffi and Boga are believed to have been the principal targets.

The players claim they were exposed to verbal abuse, racist comments, spitting, and physical assault, which included punches and kicks. Both have since filed criminal complaints against individuals allegedly involved in the attack.

On the employment front, their agents are seeking contract termination on the grounds that Nice did not take appropriate precautions to protect the players prior to or following the incident.

On Thursday, the case will be heard by the league’s judicial commission.

Moffi has not practiced with the first team since the confrontation. His original medical leave, which was intended to last around a week, has been extended numerous times, with reports claiming the athlete has struggled to heal psychologically. Boga has taken a similar approach, with both players being unavailable for selection.

According to reports in France, off-field grievances fueled supporter rage. Boga was reportedly confronted over ticket-related difficulties involving acquaintances from Marseille, while Moffi garnered fire for joking with former Lorient president Loïc Féry following defeat. Nice’s on-field issues have persisted in the aftermath.

Since the event, the club has only won once in six matches, adding to the strain both on and off the pitch.

The dispute has now become a major legal and institutional concern for Nice. If the players’ claims are upheld, it may establish a precedent for club responsibility for player safety in fan-related situations.

The verdict could have a significant impact on Moffi’s immediate future, as his position at the club is currently in serious doubt.
