A Nigerian man has sparked a conversation about the state of the country after arguing that life abroad is better than Nigeria, particularly in terms of healthcare and the effectiveness of government systems.
Speaking about his personal experience, the man revealed that he had previously travelled to the United Kingdom for a course before returning to Nigeria. However, he said he plans to return abroad, insisting that the system functions better outside the country.
In his words:
“Life abroad is far better than Nigeria. I’ve been to the UK. I went to do a course and came back, but I’ll definitely be going back. The system works over there. Let’s look at what is trending. A popular Nigerian actor just died of stage four cancer. So show me one radiotherapy centre that belongs to Lagos State Government. It doesn’t exist.”
The man questioned the availability and accessibility of adequate healthcare facilities in Nigeria, particularly for people battling serious illnesses such as cancer and kidney-related conditions.
He further criticised the government for what he described as a failure to provide basic amenities and functional healthcare facilities for citizens.
“Do you know how many people in Nigeria are actually living? Go to the LUTH Cancer Center, go there. Even kidney issues, you will find a lot.
So tell me, how is the system working when the government cannot provide basic amenities, health facilities for our citizens? That’s the reality we’re faced with,” he added.
While acknowledging that Nigeria is richly endowed with natural resources, he argued that poor leadership and structural challenges continue to hinder the country’s development.
His comments have generated discussions online, with some Nigerians agreeing that significant improvements are needed in the country’s healthcare system, public infrastructure and delivery of essential services.
