The abrupt death of a 53-year-old lecturer who allegedly passed out while seeing a young woman in Minna, the state capital, has been confirmed by the Niger State Police Command.
As police start looking into the precise circumstances behind the lecturer’s death, the occurrence has raised concerns among the public.
Abdulfatai Aiyede, the dead, was reportedly a lecturer from Bida who travelled to Minna on January 27, 2026.
According to police investigations, he paid a visit to Stella Joseph, a 25-year-old nursing student, at her home.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, the event was reported at about 10 a.m. on the same day. Stella is said to have fed the lecturer during the visit.
Aiyede apparently started convulsing shortly after eating. According to witness testimonies, he unexpectedly passed out inside the residence, prompting fear.
The lecturer was sent to the General Hospital in Minna for critical care after the collapse. Medical staff later verified that he had passed away, nevertheless.
At this point, it is still unknown what caused the abrupt convulsion and collapse.
Stella Joseph has been taken into custody in relation to the event, according to Abiodun.
He clarified that her arrest does not yet imply guilt and is a component of ongoing investigations.
The police official stated that the body of the deceased has been taken for medical testing. To ascertain the precise cause of death, authorities are awaiting lab results.
The public was reassured by police that a comprehensive investigation is under progress and that updates will be given when new information becomes available.
