According to the Anadolu Agency, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in an escalating regional conflict involving Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, Lebanon has openly sided with Kuwait, using unusually blunt language at a time when tensions in the Middle East are dangerously high.

The foreign ministry of Lebanon issued a statement on Wednesday denouncing what it deemed as a violation of Kuwaiti sovereignty by personnel of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran.

Although the ministry refrained from providing specific details on the incident, the language mirrored Beirut’s desire to disassociate itself from anything that could inflame relations among Arab governments that are now dealing with months of violence and political tension.

In a statement, the ministry warned that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ “unacceptable actions” violated Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as international law, the United Nations Charter, and good neighbourliness principles.

With regional animosities gradually seeping into Lebanon’s internal politics and security concerns, the statement arrives at a very delicate moment for the country.

Economic collapse, political stagnation, and the ongoing impact from regional tensions involving Iran, Israel, and armed organisations associated with Tehran continue to put pressure on the country.

Lebanese officials were quick to reassure Gulf nations that their country is committed to maintaining peace in the area and would not tolerate any moves that might escalate tensions.

Its “categorical rejection of any attempts that threaten the stability of Arab states or undermine their national security” was repeated by the Foreign Ministry.

Lebanese officials also made it clear that they are in full support of Kuwait’s efforts to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and stability.

The message it conveys to the region as a whole is just as important as the fact that it backs Kuwait.

As regional tensions rise and the Gulf states become more apprehensive about Iranian influence in the Arab world, the demand on Lebanon to define its position grows. Lebanon has long been seen as politically involved in this conflict.
