A woman described her friend’s journey from winning ₦15 million through gambling to being bankrupt and going back to work as a gasoline attendant after losing all of his winnings.
The woman claims that her friend married his pregnant girlfriend right away after winning ₦15 million last year.
The pair moved into a three-bedroom flat after getting married, which cost 2.2 million a year. He allegedly spent ₦6.6 million on lodging, paying three years’ worth of rent up ahead.
In addition, he offered his wife ₦2 million to buy personal items and baby supplies, then used the remaining money to manage the household and keep betting.
According to the woman, things changed last month when one of the man’s buddies sent him a “very sure” betting code that was meant to result in a ₦20 million cashout.
She claimed that after taking out the remaining ₦500,000 from his account and staking it on the code, he lost the whole sum.
The woman went on to say that he borrowed an additional ₦200,000 to try a different betting code, but he lost once more, leaving him bankrupt.
According to reports, he went to his landlord and asked for a reimbursement of the rent he had paid in advance for a full year.
Nevertheless, the landlord purportedly produced their three-year lease, which specified that the rent was non-refundable.
According to the woman, her friend has recently gone back to work as a gasoline attendant at a petrol station.
His story has spurred debate on the dangers of staking big sums of money following a significant betting victory, especially when earnings are frequently reinvested in gambling.
The narrative also demonstrates how rapidly a sizable financial windfall can vanish in the absence of a long-term financial management strategy.
