A Nigerian lady has called out some doctors in the country, accusing them of purposefully demanding needless medical tests in an attempt to generate revenue for hospitals.

She asserted in a now-viral video posted on X (previously Twitter) that although certain tests are medically required for an accurate diagnosis, others are purportedly advised even in cases where patients do not require them.

“Nigerian doctors, you guys should stop misdiagnosing people and making them spend money they don’t need to spend just because you’re trying to make money for the hospital or for yourselves.

I’m not talking about doctors who genuinely need tests to diagnose patients. I’m referring to those who intentionally send people to the lab for tests they don’t need,” she said.

The woman claimed that when she complained of chest pain, a doctor cautioned her that something was amiss with her heart and requested four costly tests.

She clarified that when she sought a second opinion from a consultant at the same institution, she was informed that the tests were superfluous and that, following a review of her medical history, only a malaria test was advised.

“The first doctor never even went through my medical history. The consultant looked through my file and said the chest pain was caused by involuntary muscle contraction because of my active lifestyle. Two doctors later told me I didn’t need those expensive tests.

That same day, the same doctor gave another person the exact four tests. It was obvious he had an agenda. God will judge those doctors who intentionally send patients for tests they don’t need,” she added.

Since then, her comments have generated discussion on the internet, with many Nigerians reporting similar experiences and others advising them to get second opinions before undertaking expensive medical procedures.
