According to a report by Vanguard on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the Special Adviser to former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, Jude Imagwe, has dismissed claims that the former president is preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election or has obtained any nomination form.

He stated that there is no verifiable evidence supporting reports that the ex-president has purchased forms or received any waiver from any political party.

Imagwe made the clarification during a televised interview while responding to circulating speculation about Jonathan’s political intentions ahead of the next general election cycle.

He noted that discussions suggesting that nomination forms had been purchased were based on rumours and should not be treated as official confirmation of participation in the race.

“Some people said they granted him a waiver. If they have done that in the circuit, I as an individual do not know that they granted him waiver. They are trying to make all this ceremony out of it,” Imagwe said.

He further explained that any decision regarding whether Jonathan would contest remains entirely personal and would be made public only by the former president himself.

The aide added that speculation being circulated in political circles should not be interpreted as confirmation of ambition or endorsement from party leadership structures.

According to him, individuals making public claims about the former president’s candidacy do not represent his position or official communication channels.

The comments come amid renewed political discussions involving several parties ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
