A lady has explained why she chose to remain in a relationship with a younger man, arguing that age does not necessarily determine maturity, wisdom or emotional intelligence in a relationship.
The woman acknowledged that she is older than her boyfriend but said she does not believe dating an older man automatically guarantees having a more sensible or mature partner.
According to her, although her boyfriend is younger, she admires the way he reasons, handles situations and communicates with her when he believes she is making a wrong decision.
She explained that her boyfriend is also comfortable correcting her when she does something he considers inappropriate, and she is willing to reflect on his advice rather than dismissing him because of his age.
‘He reasons like a matured man’
The lady said her boyfriend’s maturity and ability to correct her respectfully are among the qualities that have made her deeply attached to him.
She said:
“I’m older than my boyfriend and I know. It’s not by dating a 30-year-old man or 38-year-old man. Is that—does that man have sense? My boyfriend is a boy but he reasons like a matured man. When I’m doing things that are not good, he will correct me and tell me, ‘Baby, I don’t like what you’re doing,’ and I will say, ‘Oh, this thing that my baby said, let me reason it, it’s good.’
“It’s not by dating a man that is older than you enough. You get sense? That is why I love him so much and I can’t do without him…”
Her comments have sparked conversations online about age differences in relationships, with people sharing different views on whether age should be considered an important measure of maturity and compatibility between partners.
