According to a report by The Jerusalem Post on Monday, Feb. 6, 2026, reportedly, Israeli officials have told US officials that Israel might launch military operations against Iran on its own, should the need arise, without involving Washington.
Last week, officials from the Pentagon were informed of this stance by representatives from Israel’s Defence Ministry, according to the publication.
If Iran meets certain milestones in its ballistic missile program, Israel has laid out specific plans for possible actions that could be carried out.
The Jerusalem Post was informed by an Israeli political and military insider that “We told the Americans we will strike alone if Iran crosses the red line we have established on ballistic missiles.”
The official made it clear that Israel is keeping a careful eye on Iran’s actions and is prepared to take independent action if needed, even though there is no immediate need to do so given the current circumstances.
In a meeting with US officials, Israeli officials stressed the importance of keeping operational options open in relation to Iran.
Israeli officials are worried that the United States may respond militarily but with a narrow focus, which would undermine their security goals and misrepresent the danger from Iran’s missile program, according to the Jerusalem Post.
In the midst of continuing diplomatic efforts to resolve the dilemma around Iran’s nuclear program, this warning has been issued. Iranian and US officials resumed negotiations in Muscat, Oman, on February 6.
The United States team was spearheaded by Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff, while the Iranian delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi of the Sultanate of Oman claimed that the talks were “very serious consultations” and that both sides intend to keep talking about nuclear problems.
