A Nigerian woman has wept heavily publicly after her fiancé allegedly left their six-year romance over her bride price lists.
According to her, everything was going well until her family delivered the list of materials needed for their traditional marriage.
“My boyfriend broke up with me after seeing my bride price list. We’ve been together for six years. Since yesterday, he stopped picking my calls. It’s not my fault my family wrote this.”
The list, which quickly went viral, contained several expensive and surprising items that many people described as excessive.
She explained that the list was not her decision nor her responsibility because her family made the demands.
The requirements included five fat cows, 50 grill chickens, 30 virgin goats, 5,100 bags of cement, 500 tubers of yam, 10 million for the family, 5 million for the community, an iPhone 17 Air for the bride’s mother, an iPhone 17 Pro Max for the father, 10 bags of foreign rice, 50 litres of fuel, solar panels and more.
“He was the one that kept asking me for it, and I sent it to him because he travelled to Abuja. After he saw the list, he just said he couldn’t do it and ended the relationship,” she added.
She, however, pleaded with the public to help her beg him, insisting that the situation was beyond her control.
Her story has since triggered reactions online. One user wrote, “This one no be bride price again, na business.” 😳. Another commented, “Love no fit survive this kind list.”
The news has ignited a heated debate online, with many Nigerians questioning soaring bride prices and how they effect relationships and wedding plans.
