Jamiu Azeez, a Nollywood actor and filmmaker, has responded to anger over his supposed conversion from Islam to Christianity after a video of him attending a church service surfaced.
In the face of criticism, the Yoruba celebrity stepped out, defending his religious freedom and personal decision.
The uproar began when Jamiu posted a video of himself wearing a white gown at a church crossover ceremony.
The tweet soon spread, with some members of the Muslim community questioning the actor’s beliefs and encouraging him to alter his name.
The video elicited a wide range of emotions online, from both fans and detractors.
On Sunday, January 4, Jamiu Azeez resorted to social media to address the backlash.
He posted screenshots of texts and comments he got, emphasising the severity of the criticism surrounding his purported conversion.

“It’s only in Nigeria people are so bothered about another person’s life. Imagine telling a man in his 40s how to live his life. I posted myself in white garment on the crossover night and mehn, the comments I have been reading on blogs, especially on Facebook, are crazy. Some even came to my DM to drag me… I can choose to practise any religion and that should not be anyone’s problem. I never even came out to say I have converted o.”
Jamiu insisted that his faith is a personal choice and that he should not be judged for it.
He added: “No worry, I go wear babalawo cloth tomorrow.”
